RIL Verified

Verification that the Reduced Impact Logging Standard Has Been Achieved

RIL Verified® allows organizations in tropical regions across the globe to have their operations third party audited against the TFF RIL Standard® to ensure internal employees, as well as customers that all RIL program components have been properly executed.

The application of RIL achieves two goals:

  • Minimize impact on the environment (including wildlife) and related social aspects

  • Minimize damage to potential future crop trees (including regeneration)

The RIL Verified® Mark

The “RIL Verified®” mark is granted to organizations that have achieved full legal compliance with the TFF RIL Standard®. This mark goes beyond legally sourced tropical wood and reflects a substantial commitment to forest management has been implemented.

  • This mark may be awarded to forest management units that have been verified through independent audit.

  • In order to receive the RIL Verified® mark, verification of Legal Verified and CoC® is required either through TFF’s Legal Verified with Chain of Custody® program or another independent auditor.

Timber that is claimed to have been sourced from a RIL Verified® operation, and has been established as meeting the appropriate legality standard, must be traced and monitored from the felling site through all stages of transport and processing up to its final destination.

TFF Verification Services

TFF offers full auditing and verification services. Compliance with the TFF RIL Standard® is recognized through the issuance of a RIL Verified® mark. Often RIL Verified® acts as the first step toward full certification. What sets TFF’s program apart is the Foundation’s ability to bring forest managers and operations to a level where they can meet the TFF RIL Standard® and RIL Verified® through on-site training programs that help with the following:

  • Legal documentation

  • Proper planning

  • Use of proper technology

  • Accurate topographic mapping techniques

  • Pre-harvest inventory

  • Trained workforce

  • Qualified supervision

  • Directional felling

  • Proper skidding

  • Post-harvest silviculture

Because larger certifiers do not offer training such as this, RIL Verified® often serves as the first step toward full certification by providing critical training and education to all parties involved that would not otherwise be available. TFF has found that training is crucial to meeting the procedures outlined in the RIL Standard®.
