TFF RIL Standard
Meeting Demand for Tropical Wood With a Global Standard
The Tropical Forest Foundation’s (TFF) dedication to rainforest conservation through improved forest management, specifically reduced impact logging (RIL), revealed a need for global standards that assured timber harvesters and tropical governments were meeting all requirements of the RIL management system.
Since 1990, TFF has developed, expanded and improved training programs for a variety of organizations and local governments in tropical forest regions across the globe. It has been through the development of TFF’s RIL Standard® and supported by TFF’s RIL Verified® and Legal Verified Chain of Custody® programs, that TFF has established a sound basis for its training programs.
The TFF RIL Standard® was approved and adopted by the Tropical Forest Foundation Board of Directors in October 2006. It’s regarded as a “living document”, subject to periodic revision in order to continually address evolving environmental issues. The standard is globally recognized and is continually reviewed by tropical foresters, as well as scientific experts in the field.
